CSGG Appeals for Calm, Warns Against Misinformation and Unhealthy Calls to Remove NSA Nuhu Ribadu
Abuja — The Citizens Support For Good Governance (CSGG) has issued a firm but non-political appeal to Nigerians, urging the public to disregard what it described as misleading and unverified claims circulating on social media about the Nigerian Ministry of Defence (MOD).
In a statement released under the chairmanship of Dr. Olayinka Adeosun and jointly endorsed by the North West Coordinator, Hon. Hamisu Danbaba Malunfashi, the civic group warned that the spread of unverified information poses a serious risk to national cohesion and public confidence at a time when the country is confronting complex security challenges.
According to CSGG, several online reports and commentaries currently in circulation lack factual backing and have not been issued by authorized government sources.
The group therefore advised citizens, media practitioners, and social media users to rely strictly on official statements and briefings from the Ministry of Defence for accurate and timely information.
“Reports circulating online about the Nigerian Ministry of Defence are misleading and unverified,” the statement noted, emphasizing that responsible citizenship requires discernment and restraint in sharing sensitive security-related content.
On calls for leadership changes

CSGG stressed that leadership decisions within Nigeria’s security architecture are guided by constitutional provisions, strategic assessments, and professional evaluations not by social media trends or emotional reactions.
The group reaffirmed its confidence in the current leadership of the Ministry, stating that under Christopher Musa Gwabin, military and security operations against criminal and terrorist elements are ongoing and remain focused on protecting lives and property across the country.
“Nigeria’s safety must remain the overriding priority.
Security leadership decisions are evidence-based and strategic, not driven by social media noise,” the group stated.
On operational silence and transparency
CSGG also addressed public concerns arising from what some have interpreted as silence by defence authorities following security incidents.
The group clarified that operational silence does not equate to inactivity, explaining that certain details cannot be disclosed immediately due to operational security considerations.
It reassured Nigerians that the Ministry of Defence remains committed to accountability, professionalism, and measurable results, noting that updates are released through official channels once it is safe and appropriate to do so.
The organization called on citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of national security institutions, warning that the careless spread of misinformation could inadvertently aid criminal elements and undermine ongoing efforts to stabilize the country.
CSGG concluded by urging Nigerians to place national interest above speculation, reiterating that accurate information, patience, and unity are essential components in the collective fight against insecurity.
