CSGG Backs Northern CAN, Condemns Calls for Sack of INEC Chairman
Citizens Support for Good Governance (CSGG) has joined the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory to condemn calls for the removal of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan.
The group described the demand by the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN) as an attempt to politicise religion and undermine the credibility of a vital national institution, aligning fully with Northern CAN’s rejection of the call.
CSGG warned that framing leadership of INEC around religious sentiment rather than constitutional responsibility sets a dangerous precedent and threatens national unity.
The group stressed that public office holders must be assessed strictly on competence, integrity, and adherence to the law, urging all stakeholders to desist from divisive narratives capable of weakening Nigeria’s democratic process and social cohesion.
