A Call to Conscience for All Nigerians
The leadership of Citizens Support for Good Governance (CSGG) writes to the conscience of the Nigerian people with deep concern, patriotic resolve, and an unwavering commitment to national unity and justice.
We observe with dismay and alarm the emerging narrative being promoted by a section of the country that seeks to rebrand bandits and criminals as “freedom fighters.” This dangerous distortion of truth is not only morally indefensible but poses a grave threat to the collective peace, security, and future of Nigeria.
For far too long, silence and indifference have allowed false narratives to gain ground. Today, however, the Nigerian Senate has taken a courageous and timely step by passing a bill that clearly defines and prescribes consequences for those who inflict pain, fear, and calamity on Nigerians whether as bandits, terrorists, armed robbers, kidnappers, or cybercriminals.
These elements form a community of destruction, united not by ideology but by greed, violence, and contempt for human life. CSGG firmly believes that crime must never be romanticized, excused, or justified under any circumstance.
Justice Must Be Comprehensive and Impartial
While we commend decisive actions against violent crimes, we also stress that justice must be holistic and fair. Those who engage in contract racketeering, looting of public funds, budget padding, and economic sabotage are equally guilty of inflicting silent violence on Nigerians. Their actions steal hospitals from the sick, schools from our children, and hope from our future.
Accordingly, economic crimes must attract consequences equal to their devastating impact on national development and social trust.
Supporting Leadership Through Faith and Civic Responsibility
CSGG acknowledges that Mr. President is making efforts to confront Nigeria’s complex challenges. Leadership in a nation as diverse and wounded as ours is not easy. However, governance cannot succeed in isolation.
We therefore call on Nigerians to support the President not only through constructive engagement but also through daily prayers, moral encouragement, and responsible citizenship. Nation-building is a shared duty.
Nigeria Must Work for All, Not Just the Powerful
Nigeria belongs to all its citizens, not just the mighty, the privileged, or the politically connected. A nation cannot survive when favoritism, greed, and exclusion override fairness and justice.
Those who place personal or sectional interests above national good must be held accountable, regardless of status, affiliation, or ethnicity.
Institutions Must Serve the Nation, Not Political Interests
Anti-corruption agencies such as the EFCC and sister institutions must be seen and must act as defenders of truth and national interest, not as instruments for any ruling party or political agenda.
Justice loses legitimacy when it is selective. Nigeria deserves institutions that are fearless, independent, and loyal only to the constitution and the people.
Unity Above Politics, Opportunity Above Division
CSGG calls on the opposition to resist actions that undermine national unity, just as we urge those in power to create clear, inclusive pathways for every Nigerian to thrive, irrespective of background.
Nigeria’s natural resources gold, oil, gas, and solid minerals belong to all Nigerians, not to regions, elites, or private interests. Their utilization must reflect fairness, transparency, and shared prosperity.
A Final Call: Stand for Truth, Not Sentiment
This is a defining moment for our nation. Every Nigerian must choose truth over tribalism, justice over sentiment, and unity over regionalism.
Silence in the face of falsehood is complicity. Neutrality in the face of injustice is betrayal.
CSGG therefore issues this national appeal:
Let us defend the truth.
Let us reject narratives that glorify violence.
Let us demand accountability without bias.
And let us stand together to build a Nigeria that works for everyone.
Nigeria must prevail through justice, unity, and collective responsibility.
