CSGG Raises Concern Over Politicisation of Security, Says Defence Minister CG Musa Becoming Target of Opposition Narratives
The Citizens Support for Good Governance (CSGG) has raised concerns over what it described as the growing politicisation of Nigeria’s security challenges, warning that the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa Gwabin, is increasingly becoming a target of opposition-driven narratives.
The group, while expressing deep sympathy for the victims of the March 27 attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos, as well as those affected in Kagarko, Kaduna State, and other parts of Northern Nigeria, stressed that national tragedies must not be exploited for political advantage.
In a statement jointly issued by its National Coordinator, Dr Olumide Olayinka Adeosun and Director of Media and Public Affairs, Hon Victor Mathew Bobai, the group acknowledged the pain, anger, and frustration felt by Nigerians following the tragic loss of lives.
CSGG noted that while recent comments by reflect the emotions of many citizens, there is a growing pattern where such sentiments are being amplified in ways that unfairly single out the Defence Minister, despite the complexity of Nigeria’s security architecture.
“We align with the pain of Nigerians. Every life lost is a tragedy that must never be normalized. However, attempts to reduce a national security challenge to one individual or to call for resignation in the heat of emotional outrage risk weakening ongoing operations and emboldening adversaries,” the statement read.
The group emphasized that General Christopher Musa remains fully engaged and focused on delivering long-term, sustainable security solutions, while also overseeing immediate tactical responses across various theatres of operation.
According to CSGG, beyond the unfortunate incidents that make headlines, there are numerous coordinated efforts leading to foiled attacks, successful rescue missions, and the disruption of terrorist networks across the country.
“For every attack reported, several others have been prevented through intelligence-led operations. Our security forces continue to record significant successes in rescuing kidnapped victims and reclaiming communities previously under threat,” the group stated.
CSGG called for a more responsible and balanced national discourse one that acknowledges both the challenges on ground and the measurable progress being made by the armed forces under the current defence leadership.
While commending for his swift response and commitment to justice, the group urged political leaders and stakeholders to avoid actions or statements that could deepen divisions or politicize national security.
“This is a time for unity, not division. Nigeria’s security situation requires collective responsibility, strategic patience, and sustained collaboration—not politicization,” the statement added.
CSGG reaffirmed its support for ongoing military operations and called on Nigerians to remain united, vigilant, and supportive of efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace and stability across the country.
