CSGG, Friends of CG MUSA Hail Tinubu Over Historic Military Pay Rise, Commend Defence Minister

The Citizens Support for Good Governance (CSGG) and the Friends of CG MUSA Social Media Platform have expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his encouragement and historic welfare package for the Nigerian Military.
In a joint statement issued in Kaduna on Tuesday, the National Coordinator of CSGG, Dr. Adeosun Olumide Olayinka and the Director of Media and Public Affairs of CSGG and Advisor, Friends of CG MUSA, Honourable Victor Mathew Bobai, said the President’s approval of a massive salary increment for Armed Forces personnel is a game-changer for national security.
The groups were reacting to the official announcement by the Ministry of Defence that President Tinubu has approved a 30 to 80 percent salary increment for about 250,000 personnel of the Armed Forces, effective September 1, 2026.
According to the Ministry’s Press Release signed by Leah Katung-Babatunde, SA Media to the Honourable Minister of Defence:
The package will see an 80 percent increase for junior ranks (Private to Staff Sergeant), 50 percent for middle-tier officers (Warrant Officer to Colonel), and 30 percent for senior military leadership, raising the annual personnel cost from N660 billion to N924 billion.
Defence Minister, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), OFR, described the increment as “a decisive morale booster that reinforces the administration’s dedicated vision for security sector reform” and assured that it will be met with “renewed vigour, uncompromising discipline, and heightened operational effectiveness” across all theatres of operation.
CSGG and Friends of CG MUSA said the gesture has proven that President Tinubu is a leader who matches words with concrete action.
The groups also commended the Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), for his tireless efforts, patriotism and result-oriented leadership in repositioning the Ministry of Defence and restoring confidence in the security architecture.
They further thanked Nigerians for their continuous support and prayers for the Minister and the Armed Forces.
On politics, the groups vowed to stand firmly with President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections to ensure continuity and full actualization of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The statement however appealed to Mr. President not to completely discard the advice and observations coming from the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, noting that the Bishops represent a critical moral voice and a particular segment of society.
“Mr President is a listening leader and we know he still has good and credible people working with him in the Nigerian Project like CG MUSA, the Minister of Defence. Hope is not lost completely,” the groups stated.
